A Handmade by Henning lamp is produced from wood – nature’s own material. Birch plywood is precision cut with a laser cutter. The beautifully contrasting dark edges of the lamp are a result of the heat of the laser burning through the wood. The design of the lamp and the precision of the laser, mean that the lamps can be assembled without the use of glue or other raw materials.

The first strokes of a new Handmade by Henning lamp are often drawn on my computer. The challenge that I face is how to transform a flat sheet material to a lamp with an organic shape. Using different software programs, I simulate the appearance and lighting profile of the lamp on the computer. When I am happy with the virtual model, I make a physical prototype. In an iterative process, I test and adjust multiple porotypes until I am satisfied with the end result.
